Stetston boots and apparel is the product of an American legacy. Since 1865, Stetson apparel has sought to reflect the enterprising spirit of this country through its manufacturing of products that are authentic and diverse.
As a matter of fact, Stetson is the creator of the most iconic accessory in Western wardrobe: the cowboy hat. For over 150-years, Stetson clothing and accessories have been staples in Western wardrobes. As a global leader in headwear, Stetson produces more than 3 million hats per year in their U.S. facility, making them the largest hat manufacturer in the world.
The Stetson story began when founder John B. Stetson was panning for gold in Colorado. He fashioned himself a hat out of thick beaver felt, claiming that fur hats are lighter, maintain their shape, and withstand weather better than hats made of leather.
Stetson originally wore the hat out of necessity, but grew to genuinely like it. He eventually sold the hat to a traveler for a piece of gold worth five dollars. He rode off unknowingly wearing the very first Stetson hat to exist.
